Niall Brennan answers tough questions on the price and utilization data behind health care cost growth for employers

Suzanne Delbanco catches up with Niall Brennan, President and CEO of the Health Care Cost Institute (HCCI), to ask the tough questions on price and utilization data for employer-sponsored health care.

If you’re interested in understanding the data behind what’s driving health care costs growth, then this episode is for you!

Health care leader Niall Brennan has championed price transparency throughout his career, having served as a Senior Analyst at the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission and Chief Data Officer at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and now leading a non-profit dedicated to increasing transparency in health care costs. He and Suzanne don’t shy away from big issues like provider consolidation and whether telehealth, which has seen an increase in utilization as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, will ultimately be a cost driver or a cost saver.

Niall Brennan cites research from the Health Care Cost Institute’s health care claims datasets, which covers both the Medicare and employer-sponsored health care markets – among others, as well as the RAND Hospital Price Transparency Study.

Suzanne also spoke with Niall Brennan back in June 2018. Listen to that conversation here: Catalystforpaymentreform – Niall-brennan-on-health-care-price-and-utilization-data.
